TSA now enforcing their demands for papers

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

I missed this story last week. Papers, Please! reports you can no longer fly without ID. The TSA Press Relase confirms it.
This new procedure will not affect passengers that may have misplaced, lost or otherwise do not have ID but are cooperative with officers. Cooperative passengers without ID may be subjected to additional […]

Bullion value calculator is pretty much done

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

The bullion value calculator I created using Google App Engine now allows you to login with your Google Account. If you sign in and enter some values, it will store them. The next time you visit, the values you entered will be populated. If you enter new values, those will be the ones […]

Paulson proposes hosing the United States even more

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I just saw a story at the Washington Post announcing Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson’s plans for the demise of financial institutions. He thinks that because government is the expected answer to problems, we ought to give people more intervention. Because it’s a lack of intervention that causes problems or something.
Let’s see what he […]

Oklahoma stands up for constitutional government

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

This is a story from Monday actually, but I didn’t read the article until today. The Oklahoma House of Representatives sent a message to Washington. The Senate has yet to pass the bill, but it sure would be nice if states asserted their sovereignty like this:

“The State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under […]

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

The AppEngine bullion market value calculator is working

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Apparently there’s a memcache problem with Google App Engine. Renaming my memcache key caused my app to work.
This is all in reference to my post a few days ago where I mentioned my Google App Engine Bullion Value Calculator.
Update 2008-06-17: The problems came back, so I surrounded the problem spots with try/except blocks and […]

Marine checkpoints in Indianapolis

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Again, more checkpoints. And getting people used to having our cities feel like Baghdad. Hopefully some court somewhere will make a ruling against these checkpoints.
Story.

There is hope

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Two pieces of excellent news today that are very encouraging.
One: the Supreme Court ruled (pdf) that the executive and legislative branches might actually be bound by the US Constitution. And that the Constitution means what it says when it says “the writ of habeas corpus shall not be suspended” and that the Constitution might say […]

A bullion market value calculator using Google App Engine

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I went to a Python meetup and went through some of the Google App Engine tutorial. It wasn’t long before I started making a tool that I’ve looked for but haven’t found. The tool probably exists somewhere, but I took the opportunity to make the simple tool and […]

United States Dollar falls below 7.30 millibarrels of light sweet crude oil

Friday, June 6th, 2008

The dollar started the week at 7.85 millibarrels and even climbed up above 8.17 millibarrels. But today alone it has fallen over a half millibarrel. Source of today and source of earlier.
